The Hudson Valley Basket Brigade is a 100% volunteer-run grassroots organization. We partner with local non-profit organizations and schools to identify families in need and then our team of volunteers hand-delivers them a basket full of groceries. All donations go through the Community Foundation of Orange & Sullivan Counties, a 501c3, and are tax-deductible.
Our mission is to carry on the spirit of love and giving shown by 4-year-old Jean Elie in Haiti, who shared his only meal of the day he received at school with his family, eventually losing his life by succumbing to the effects of malnutrition.
Our initiative delivers a basket full of groceries and a frozen turkey to local families in need at Thanksgiving time and helps families struggling with food security throughout the year, especially around holidays. The Basket Brigade reaches out to these families with a gift that allows them to experience the joy and pride of making a feast for their family in their own kitchen or simply the message that their community cares about them throughout the year. The baskets also contain information about other community resources available to them as well.
The Hudson Valley Basket Brigade is associated with the International Basket Brigade, providing baskets of food and household items for an estimated two million people annually in countries all over the world through local grassroots efforts. Throughout the years International Basket Brigade volunteers have delivered food, clothing, and hope to those who need it most. We would be honored to have you support this truly wonderful initiative in your local community.
